About Duo Lamorniana:
Ricarda Schmidt, viola, has worked with the principal orchestras inWeimar, Baden-Baden and Augsburg before joining the Meiningen Opera house as co-principal violist, a position that she held for almost 20 years. Here, she collaborated with such notable musicians as Kirill Petrenko and Elina Garanča.
After performing the gamut of operas and symphonies, Ricarda now has now dedicated herself to performing music for solo viola and chamber music with her partner Ute.
Ute Weickenmeier, piano, specialised in vocal accompaniment, and after graduation from the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt in Weimar has gone on to work in the opera houses of Jena, Meiningen, Osnabrück , Halle and Nürnberg. Ute has also spent time as Assistant to the Board at her parent’s Architecture company in Munich.
She now lives in England and plays chamber music with Ricarda Schmidt.
With a history stretching back to the year 901, the ancient parish church of St Mary the Virgin, St Marychurch, Torquay, has stood through Saxon missionaries, Norman builders, Victorian renewal, and even wartime tragedy. Today, its rich heritage and remarkable acoustics provide the perfect backdrop for this special evening.
