Celebrating Coleridge-Taylor’s 150th Birthday
Ambrosian Strings with Guest Artist, Victoria Cornet, Clarinet
Join us for a special evening of live chamber music at the historic St Mary the Virgin Church, St Marychurch, Torquay.
This concert celebrates Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s 150th birthday with a performance of his Clarinet Quintet in F-Sharp minor, Op.10, alongside Mozart’s much-loved Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K.581.
We are excited to welcome guest artist Victoria Cornet (clarinet), admired for her sensitive, lyrical playing. Victoria has performed with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, and at festivals across Europe, bringing her artistry to audiences far and wide.
With a history stretching back to the year 901, the ancient parish church of St Mary the Virgin, St Marychurch, Torquay, has stood through Saxon missionaries, Norman builders, Victorian renewal, and even wartime tragedy. Today, its rich heritage and remarkable acoustics provide the perfect backdrop for this special evening.
The evening features two masterpieces of the chamber repertoire:
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Clarinet Quintet in F-sharp minor, Op.10, was performed in celebration of the composer’s 150th birthday.
Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K.581 one of the most beloved works for clarinet and strings.
